DocFetcher is an Open Source desktop search application: It allows you to quickly access documents on your computer by typing keywords. - You can think of it as Google for your local document repository. The application is currently available for Windows and GTK-based Linux distributions. In the 1.0 release the following major enhancements were made:* Portable version: When the indexed documents are inside the program folder, the latter can be moved around freely without breaking file references. Also works on CD-ROMs.* DocFetcher can be launched by rightclicking on a folder.* DocFetcher daemon watches indexed folders for changes when DocFetcher isn't running.* Global hotkey: Pressing a certain key combination moves DocFetcher to the front.* Support for SVG files.* Support for MS Office 2007.* Translation for Persian (GUI only) and Portuguese. At least two things set DocFetcher apart from other desktop search applications, such as Google Desktop. First, it defaults to indexing only what you need, not to indexing the entire harddrive, and second, it indexes documents only - pictures, music, videos, etc. are omitted. Other than that, if you don't need eye candy, but want a powerful Open Source tool that just does what it's supposed to do, without violating your privacy and without installing "extras", then this program is for you!
